Babcock has lost its multi activity contract of providing services to RAF College Cranwell.  Serco is the successful bidder that will take over the contract from April 2004, or earlier if agreement can be reached on a phase-in.

The contract provides aircraft engineering and related support to the RAF and in which the T&G is the major union.  Separately, in a sub-contracted provision, Eurest undertakes catering, messing and cleaning tasks through GMB and T&G agreements.

Consultations with both Babcock and Serco are at an early stage over the transfer, and there will no doubt be many difficult issues to be confronted in the next few weeks and months.
